EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE

  • English Tutor for Syrian Refugee 2016: I am starting a program where we connect Syrian refugees with international Arabic-speaking students as tutors to help ease their transition into the U.S. as they come from Syria or different parts of the world. I will be starting tutoring in July 2016 myself to an older Syrian man who arrive in Michigan 2 months ago.

  • Ramadan Iftar commetiee - Summer 2016: Completed 14 hours before the holy month of Ramadan planning and preparing for Ramadan as part of Umich MSA (Muslim Students Association). During Ramadan, we prepared the iftar for Umich students who stayed on campus for Ramadan.

  • Habitat for Humanity - Summer 2016: Completed 32 hours of volunteer work building homes for low income families in Maryland.

  • MENA Conference in UPenn-Wharton school - Spring 2016: The conference invited MENA leaders, investors and entrepreneurs to share their different views of the region politically and economically. One takeaway for me was that the MENA region’s presence in the global economy is real, and is constantly growing with the region witnessing changes on many levels. I got to meet the UAE ambassador in Russia, Mr. Omar Saif Ghobash and had a great talk with him.

  • Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) - Internal Equities department - Summer 2015: I interned at the internal equities department of ADIA where I leanred a lot about ADIA as a whole and about the IE in specific. During the first week, we were given a crash course on cash flows, income statements, and balance sheets. Then, I started working in the IE department where I researched multiple companies including Facebook and Ali Baba, and given presentations on them. It was a great experience as I leanred a great deal of the kind of work ADIA does.

  • Habitat for Humanity - Summer 2015: Completed 30 hours of volunteer work building homes for low income families in Morgantown, West Virginia.

  • Big Event - Spring 2015: Completed 9 hours of voluntary work in Blacksburg with the UAE students association. We did all sort of work around the farm in Salam, Virginia.
  • Arabic Language tutor - 2014-2015: Volunteered to give Arabic grammer lessons in coordination with the Arabic course supervisor. Working with other students has allowed me to develop teaching skills.

  • New Zealand Study Abroad - Winter 2014: A three week-long study abroad on sustainability and humans of New Zealand. We also did over 15 hours of community service.

  • Wall Street Prep Boot Camp: A two weekends-long crash course on finacial modeling given by Wall Street Prep in D.C.  We learned how to read and construct balance sheets and income statements.

  • TRADE DEPARTMENT JOB SHADOWING, UAE EMBASSY – Spring 2014: A week-long internship with the trade department in the UAE embassy. Attended multiple meetings with industry and corporate interests, research for current and upcoming projects, attended a launch event in the embassy.
  • Habitat for Humanity – Summer 2014: Completed 20 hours of volunteer work building homes for low income families in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
